For 12 years Joe worked for the Access Fund helping local climbing organizations with land acquisitions as well as assisting with other advocacy issues. During his time there he was instrumental in helping the WCCC with multiple issues helping maintain access throughout the canyon, including but not limited to the purchase and/or subdivision of multiple properties that are now owned by the Western Colorado Climbers’ Coalition. In this interview we discuss what that all looked like from the Access Fund perspective and we also talk a little about what it looks like all over the country.
The Access Fund has put together a pamphlet to help local advocacy groups start the conversation with land owners about opening up access to climbing.
Here is a property line map highlighting the different phases of property purchase in the early part of the canyon. During the interview we bounce around a little in discussing the different acquisitions, hopefully this helps keep it clear as you listen.
